Period Pack/Menstrual Hygiene Kit Mission Project at General Synod

What is period poverty?

In the United States, some people cannot afford menstrual hygiene products such as pads, tampons, and other items that promote healthy practices. This inability to purchase hygiene products is known as period poverty, affecting over 22 million individuals. People in homeless and domestic abuse shelters and prisons, and those who rely on food banks are at increased risk for lack of access to these essential products.

Church World Services (CWS) and the United Church of Christ are responding.

Church World Services (CWS), a UCC global partner, introduced a Period Pack/Menstrual Hygiene Kit to help individuals living in period poverty. The kit provides several products that promote cleanliness and health during a menstrual cycle. Church members and volunteers across the country gather to package these items.

The General Synod 34 Period Pack/Menstrual Hygiene Kit mission project. (June 30 – July 4th)

The UCC and CWS have set a goal to obtain 1,000 assembled kits by July 4th.  General Synod provides a wonderful opportunity for attendees to gather and make kits while at the event. In addition, Synod drop-off locations will be available for already assembled kits. 

Your online donation to the Period Pack/Menstrual Hygiene Kit mission project will provide needed supplies.

Each kit contains a variety of items, including hand sanitizer, tampons, pads, soap, and wipes, among other products. Your gift to the UCC will help us to purchase supplies.
